Taking refuge is the beginning of faith, understanding, practice and attainment. First, believe in and enjoy the Dharma, then understand the Dharma, practice according to the Dharma, and finally attain the fruit. Only with faith can there be joy. The body of faith must be joyful. Take refuge in Living Buddha Lian-sheng happily.
The meaning of taking refuge is to turn to, to rely on, and to be saved. Among the four refuges of Tantric Buddhism, "taking refuge in the Vajra Guru, taking refuge in the Buddha, taking refuge in the Dharma, and taking refuge in all the holy sages in the ten directions", the Vajra Guru is ranked first because he is the general holder of the Three Jewels. It is because sentient beings take refuge in the Vajra Guru that they can learn the Tantric Dharma, and it is also because of the support of the Vajra Guru that they can be saved by the Guru Three Jewels.
The blessed causes of taking refuge will attract blessings and increase the good roots and merits. Those who take refuge receive blessings, turn delusion into enlightenment, increase their blessings and wisdom, and then become pure in body, speech and mind, leave the sea of reincarnation of life and death, and achieve the holy fruit.

How to take refuge in Living Buddha Lian-sheng
The importance of taking refuge empowerment:
Performing virtuous deeds, chanting and paying homage to buddhas are important. In addition, to advance the level of practice, it is necessary to do the inner cultivation which involves a long period of training. This requires the guidance of a real transcendental Vajra Master who can lead an individual to the right path to achieve results. In order to be a student, one has to take refuge and receive initiation empowerment blessing from a Vajra Master.
In Vajrayana, a person who has received the refuge empowerment from a Vajra Master, also becomes a disciple to the Buddha. This establishes the path of cultivation toward perfect enlightenment.
Vajrayana practice places heavy importance on refuge and transmission empowerment from the Guru, without which, it is quite impossible to achieve any result.
The True Buddha School Introductory Handbook/Pamphlet
-
So far, the "True Buddha Sect" has only maintained the name of the practice sect for me and many students. We have no organization and are scattered all over the world. The real temple has just been established in the United States. To be honest, I don't want to organize it. I just think that the True Buddha Sect is an invisible practice method that allows everyone to receive a real and beneficial Buddhist Dharma, get rid of life and death, understand the mind and see the nature, and practice the Bodhi path. Everyone practices and everyone becomes a Buddha.
I personally started practicing Taoism first, so every student should respect the Three Pure Ones of Taoism, and also respect the gods in heaven, and the gods in the world of cause and effect. Especially the Three Mountains and Nine Marquises and the Taoist priests of Qingzhen. Don't slander Taoism because you practice other methods. In fact, Taoism is unfathomable. If you don't enter its door, you don't know "the whole universe". Don't think that Buddhism criticizes heterodox religions, which means Taoism. At that time, Sakyamuni Buddha criticized heterodox religions, referring to Brahmanism and other Indian religions, not Chinese Taoism. I am the respected Taoist priest.
Regarding Xianjiao, I personally practiced Xianjiao for more than ten years and received the Bodhisattva ordination. All true disciples of the Buddha can also practice Pure Land Sect or other sects, each relying on Dharma masters for practice. We believe that all sects of sutra and esoteric sects are equal and their dharma is equal. However, because people have different abilities, there are 84,000 kinds of people. , practicing 84,000 kinds of Dharma, we still respect and respect all the masters of Buddhist teachings. What I am teaching is Bodhisattva Precepts and Upasaka.
In the end, I relied on Tantra. The practice of Tantra is to transform the three karmas into the three secrets. It is also the method of secret solemnity and great round mirror wisdom. Disciples of the True Buddha Sect must respectfully pay homage to Guru Rinpoche. Guru Rinpoche is the first generation founder of Tibetan Buddhism. After personally receiving the secret initiation, I entered the Sea of Vairocana and then passed on the Dharma to all my disciples. This is the "Red Crown Holy Crown". Vajra Master".
Although the True Buddha Sect is unorganized, it has many converts, including people all over the world. I want everyone to remember three points:
First, the True Buddha Sect is a combination of Taoism, Sutra, and Tantra. It was born in response to the current world. It is the most suitable method for modern people to practice. It has a special relationship and is even more predictable in the future.
Second, those who are interested in spreading the True Buddha Sect must be qualified as a guru. There are two identities of a guru: First, he must be recognized as a guru by his root guru. Second, he must truly "enlighten his mind and see his nature, and control his own life and death" in his practice, and be recognized as a guru by the main deity. (This point must be confirmed. If you make false statements, you will go to the great Avici Hell and will never be able to be reborn.) Those who are recognized by the guru must also practice Taoism and exoteric Buddhism for many years, and after observation, they must truly know the Dharma, practice the Dharma, and realize the Dharma. Only with definite verification can they become a teacher. Otherwise, they will misrepresent the name of the sect and fall into the great Avici Hell.
Third, if you have taken refuge in your root guru, other gurus must not accept your former brothers as disciples, so as not to disrupt the inheritance. This is important to remember.
There are currently more than 100,000 disciples of the True Buddha Sect around the world, and the disciples who have taken refuge come from all over the world. This number is the number for which I issued the "Refugee Certificate". Every day, people come to take refuge, come to the United States to receive refuge and initiation in person, or write letters requesting refuge and initiation from a distance. I believe that in just a few years, this number will increase tenfold and a hundredfold.
Many disciples of the True Buddha Sect, after taking refuge, asked me what precepts the True Buddha Sect should abide by? We write this in the certificate of refuge: "This is because of the Buddha's decree. I wholeheartedly take refuge in Buddhism. I acknowledge the Master. I take refuge in Master Liansheng. I am willing to serve the Buddha's will and do good deeds for the rest of my life. I am willing to serve the Dharma and keep the precepts for the rest of my life. Live a long life and be loyal to the country. Be filial to your parents. Respect your teachers and fellow disciples. Live your whole life and practice it without distinction. It is specially written and expressed. All the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas in heaven and on earth can learn from it."
Many people are very surprised that the Dharma name of Master Lu Shengyan is Liansheng, while the first character of the Dharma names of his disciples is all "Lian". Isn't this very strange? According to general practice, the first character of the Dharma name of the master is different from that of the disciple. For example, my Dharma name was Huiyan when I took refuge with Master Yinshun. When I took refuge with Master Leguo, my Dharma name was Daoyan, and so on.
In fact, I use the same name for master and disciple for three reasons:
First, the fruit and state are equal. I hope that all my disciples’ practice will lead to the same realm of retribution as mine, and that everyone can be reborn in the world of lotus ponds.
Second, Taoism and Dharma are inseparable. I give my disciple’s Dharma name the same as my Dharma name, and achieve the state where Taoism and Dharma are indistinguishable. We are one body and three treasures, and we can get closer. The master’s method is passed down directly to his disciples, and everyone shares it. Benefits of the law, regardless of relative or distance, everyone will benefit.
Third, the master-disciple family. I have always had this idea. If a disciple obtains a wonderful Dharma through practice, sometimes he is better than the master, and even better than the master. I hope that the students' practice will be better than mine, so I use the same name as me to express the master-disciple family. It also means being closer.
At the same time, my guru has no airs of a guru at all and does everything casually. Some of my disciples, who regard me as a teacher as a friend, have always been casual and cannot tell who is the teacher and who is the student. I don't have any dignity, and I can't give orders. I just let everything happen. I am such a guru.
However, it is different for me when it comes to my own teacher. When I see my own teacher, I must be like seeing a Buddha. I kneel down with my legs, prostrate myself to the ground, stretch out my hands, bow down to the ground, and respectfully bow to him as a disciple. Master, at the same time, if the teacher is nearby, I will personally make offerings to the guru. If he is far away, I will also use the postal etiquette to worship the guru. This is courtesy of my own practicing teacher.
I always remember my teacher. Once a teacher, he is a father for life. During all the morning and evening rituals, I remember the time when I took refuge in my master. I cherish the Dharma that my master taught me.
Buddhism itself emphasizes etiquette, so Maming Bodhisattva's dedication and vows include "Fifty Verses on Serving the Master's Dharma", which explains how students can respect the etiquette of their guru. I wrote it out. I feel that if you can do it, just try your best. If you can't do it, just let it happen. Let's take a look at "Fifty Verses on Learning from the Dharma". What does it say? How can a disciple who takes refuge be considered worthy of the duty of taking refuge?

These "Fifty Verses on Serving the Master's Dharma" are the rituals that Buddhist disciples should observe towards their guru. After I personally read the "Serving Teacher Dharma" well, I should also serve and support all my teachers in the same way, and make thorough efforts to do so. Because if all my secret dharma is taught by no master, how can I practice it to perfection?
Currently, I have more and more disciples. In Seattle, USA, there are tall Dharma buildings and trees, in order to make the Dharma door more complete. I hope that all disciples at home and abroad will study "Fifty Verses on the Dharma" together, know how to pay respect to the guru and fellow disciples, and do not know the Dharma and break the law. Although I follow the disciples, the Vajra Protector God will protect me day and night. Anyone who fails to follow the Dharma easily will be greatly rewarded. When the time comes, I won’t be able to save you.
